THE ULTIMATE SUSPENSION : COMPANY PROFILE
The Ultimate Suspension, a leading name in aftermarket 4WD and commercial vehicle suspension, prides itself on being at the forefront of today's suspension technology.
In 1975, from humble beginnings in a small engineering workshop in Sydney's South West, Managing Director, Ken O'Keefe, believed he could revolutionise the almost non-existent aftermarket suspension industry by engineering and developing suspension components far superior to any on offer. Recognising that commercial and 4WD vehicles were manufactured for a world market and therefore built to a compromise, Ken systematically developed tailored suspension systems to suit popular 4WD vehicles, the first of which being the FJ40 Toyota LandCruiser.
The development was never quick and easy, or cheap for that matter, as design and construction of this type had never before been undertaken. Research, whilst always the unsung hero, required concentration on aspects of the product like quality of material used, springs rates, strength and travel and most importantly, matched dampener valving for spring control. These and many more refinements went into the development of the first Ultimate Suspension system and now are the benchmark for today's end result. A world class fully engineered reliable product that has transformed the common misconceptions of how commercial, and more importantly 4WD vehicles, should perform and handle.
After three decades of development, the same formula is true to this day. Sure, the little engineering shop is now a fully equipped Research and Development facility with specialty hand built equipment developed for prototyping and manufacture. Our meager domestic sales may have taken us to over 20 countries where we now export by container but the philosophy is still the same. Ken is still involved from the beginning on every project, as well as research and development concept. With major growth and world wide recognition for its product lines, the company holds even greater promise for its future. With the inclusion of a fully equipped shock absorber development and manufacturing facility at its head office in Minto NSW, the company is now realising its dream of manufacturing Australia's first monotube gas over hydraulic re-buildable shock absorber.
Whilst The Ultimate Suspension continues to strive for excellence in spring, shock absorber and torsion bar component manufacture, the ongoing development of product has not stopped there. Associated components have not escaped attention to detail and quest for perfection. Once overlooked but equally important components such as eccentric shock tower bushes and polyurethane spring and control arm bushes have all been developed to compliment spring and shock absorber relationships. The Ultimate Suspension has thus become famous for its quality, innovation and commitment to development.
The Ultimate Suspension's reputation in the development of suspension systems as a complete package has not only achieved recognition in the aftermarket but valuable alliances with original equipment manufacturers both domestically and abroad. The off road racing circuits including the Australian Safari have been extensively utilised in the development and prerelease evaluation of new models. Ken, through his technical association with companies such as Toyota, Daihatsu, Nissan, Nismo, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Asia Motors, Proton and Bufori just to name a few, has gained international recognition for specific built suspension systems. The Ultimate Suspension successes, through domestic use and in mining and military applications, have won us many accolades and orders to return income to an Australian based industry.
At a time when expansion and innovation is far from commonplace, The Ultimate Suspension is continuing its push forward into international markets, widening its product range and creating stronger Australian presence in the global high-tech community.
